Paradox: Should I thank god or beg for his forgiveness?

Setting aside the idea of "God," I don't know how I can do anything other than be in a state of gratitude for a truly beautiful ual experience. And it should be beautiful... if it's not, then why do it? It's just gratitude toward the other person, whatever else made the experience possible, and or just the universe itself.
