Why won't the logs in my fireplace burn? They just endlessly smolder!?

I usually have a raging fire! However I just bought a bundle of logs from the supermarket because I was out of wood. I CANNOT get these logs to burn!! They just endlessly smolder! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!???????? I'm frustrated.
